Hong Kong Arts Festival opens tonight

The annual Hong Kong Arts Festival officially opens tonight with Cecilia Bartoli.

By “official opening,” it doesn’t mean that Bartoli is the first to perform in the whole festival. Last night I went to a concert by Masaaki Suzuki and his formidable Bach Collegium Japan with a complete performance of St. Matthew Passion. That is a very refined performance.

But tonight we may expect something more stellar and grandiose.

The diva has just got a Grammy with her album Sacrificium. Music of the disc will be featured in her February 24 recital. Two days after, not today.

For me the official opening means that a cocktail is expected and I’m now looking forward to having a sip of fine wine before all the heavenly music.

The concert is sublime — I’ve posted a review at http://www.denniswu.com/en/a/83 . It’s sad that I cannot catch the second concert!
