I was not there at the closing, but from the press release the Hong Kong Arts Festival does again very well in attendance this year, with 95% of all tickets sold.
Eagle-eyed readers may also note that the festival has announced some of the next year’s programmes, including Bavarian State Opera’s Così fan tutte. The housed production is by Dietor Dorn, a Leipziger who has produced a lauded (yet with a little controversy over the television broadcast, now a decade old) Tristan und Isolde for Metropolitan Opera in 1999 and revived in 2003 and 2008 and captured on DVD.
Also announced in the festival is the Royal Concertgebouw concert that I wrote earlier. And there is John Neumeier’s A Streetcar Named Desire which was premièred by Marcia Haydeé. The ballet is set with the music by Sergey Prokofiev and Alfred Schnittke.
